Programmes
Amala has two core programmes: our Global Secondary Diploma and Changemaker Courses.
Amala Global Secondary Diploma
The Amala Global Secondary Diploma is the first secondary level programme and qualification designed with and for refugee youth. The programme enables young refugees and members of their host communities who are out of school to complete their secondary education through flexible study, typically over a fifteen month period. Through a combination of Amala courses, a personal interest project and a pathways advising programme, the Global Secondary Diploma enables students to make change in their community and pursue further opportunities for higher education, work and entrepreneurship. The Global Secondary Diploma is internationally accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
Changemaker Courses
Amala Changemaker Courses address specific areas such as “Peacebuilding”, “Social Entrepreneurship” and “Ethical Leadership”, where displaced and host community youth, aged 16-25, can make change in their lives. Courses are typically run over a ten week period. Our Changemaker Courses enable students to get back into learning, develop life skills and support them to integrate and contribute to their communities.
As well as our main programmes, we use our transformative educational model and expertise to co-create bespoke programmes with other organisations, contextualised to the specific needs of the partner organisation and the youth that they serve.
Examples include:
"Leadership for Peace", workshop series supporting Odyssey Scholars from the International Institute of Education to develop as leaders and changemakers
UWC-Amala Changemaker Foundation Programme, in partnership with Rise: a 6-month programme supporting 14-17 year olds in Kenya and Jordan to develop projects and presentation skills to compete in the Rise Global Challenge
