Africa

Kakuma Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement, Kenya

Amala has worked in Kakuma Camp since 2017 and our team there runs the Amala Global Secondary Diploma.

We also work with refugee-led community-based organisations in Kakuma camp to run our Changemaker Courses:

Faulu Production is a community-based organisation which supports and empowers refugees, disadvantaged youths and women through participatory development and education. Amala and Faulu Production have a common mission - to promote young talents and advocate for access to quality education and lifelong learning. 

URISE for Africa is a refugee run community-based organisation founded in Kakuma Camp. URISE’s vision is to empower youth with transformative and innovative skills that they can use to serve as ambassadors of peace. Amala and URISE have been collaborating to run Amala programmes in Kakuma Camp since November 2017.

In Kalobeyei Settlement, located 30km outside Kakuma Camp, we have been working with community-based organisation Kalobeyei Initiative for Better Life to run our Changemaker Courses for displaced youth in the area since January 2021, and in March 2025, Ki4Bli became the first partner to pilot running the Amala Global Secondary Diploma. Kalobeyei Initiative for Better Life is a community-based organisation that provides inspiration, action and development to refugees in Kalobeyei Settlement. 

Transformative Skills Lab (formerly Kakuma Vocational Centre (KVC)) is community-based organisation that aims to equip refugees and the host community with tools to create a better future for all. Amala and KVC have been running Amala courses together since November 2021.

Teach for Community focuses on digital skills and coding for women and young people, alongside courses in social entrepreneurship, and has been an Amala partner since 2025, running Social Entrepreneurship and Economics for Positive Change courses. The organisation was founded by Barnaba Osman, Amala alumnus.

The Discover was founded by Joseph Nduwimana and Seth Mugenyi, two Amala alumni, and works with vulnerable refugees living in Kakuma Camp to implement livelihood programmes, such as tailoring and cosmetics, as well as education programmes including English, leadership, digital skills, and training in professional document writing training.

Acare has been working with Amala since 2026, bringing Social Entrepreneurship education to young people in Kakuma, with the vision of creating a more literate, healthy, secure and peaceful society.

Girl Power Action Initiative increase awareness of gender based violence, educate on sexual and reproductive health and advocate for the rights of refugee girls and women, and has been running Amala Social Entrepreneurship and English for Changemakers courses since 2026. Girl Power Action Initiative was founded by Amala alumna Sudi Omar Noor.

Reading Lenses has been an Amala partner since 2026, and was founded by Changemaker Course alumnus Luka Gatwech Deng. Reading Lenses promotes literacy, digital skills, creativity, and youth leadership among refugee and host communities.

Amala also partnered with refugee-run organisations, Human Shine Dream, Refugee and Host Resilience Initiative (REHORI) & House of Hope Community to run Amala Changemaker Courses in 2022, Initiative for Nurturing Vulnerable & Empowerment for Resilience (INVER) in 2023, and Youth Education and Development Association (YEDA) and JRS Kakuma from 2023-2025 in Kakuma Camp.

Nairobi, Kenya

Umoja Refugee Creatives aims to curb the effects of poverty through enabling young people to become self-reliant, and has been running Amala Changemaker Courses since 2025.

Kampala and and Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda

Amala partner Mohaba Worldwide (formerly United South Sudan Urban Refugees Community (USSURC)) runs Amala Changemaker Courses in Kampala and Kyriandongo Settlement in Uganda.

Abuja, Nigeria

Amala has partnered with Initiative for Social Inclusion and Grassroots Literacy (ISGIL) to run Changemaker Courses in Nigeria for the first time. ISGIL promotes literacy, inclusion, and grassroots empowerment across Nigeria’s most underserved communities.

Torit, South Sudan

Amala has also partnered with Innovative Development Initiative (IDI), making IDI the first South Sudanese organisation to run Changemaker Courses. IDI works to improve the enrolment of children in schools in South Sudan, peace education, sustainable food, livestock and livelihoods, and climate change action.

Middle East

Amman, Jordan 

Amala has been working in Amman, Jordan, since 2017, when we first started running Changemaker Courses. Our Amala team in Amman launched the Amala Global Secondary Diploma in 2020 and runs the accredited programme at our learning centre in Jabal al-Weibdeh.
